The Berkshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross would like thank Berkshire County people with the outpouring of generosity to the American Red Cross following the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington.. This has enabled the American Red Cross to launch an unprecedented relief effort that includes an initial $100 million gift program featuring near-term financial assistance to families of victims in the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks, including emergency medical services, law enforcement and investigative responders.

The financial assistance includes:

  • mortgage and rent payments
  • food, clothing, utililities
  • transportation
  • funeral and related expenses

"What has taken place is extraordinary, and we must respond in an extraordinary way,"said Dr. Bernadine Healy, President and CEO of the American Red Cross. "The American Red Cross has a heavy burden - to live up to the inspiration and memory those lost. It is with great humility and pride that we carry out this noble obligation."
