Massachusetts Telephone Support NumberThe 14 Chapters of the American Red Cross in Massachusetts have set up a telephone number of Massachusetts residents who have lost or missing immediate family members as a result of the World Trade Center or Pentagon incidents of September 11. The Massachusetts Red Cross is establishing the phone number to gather information from these immediate family members concerning needs they may have, for which the Red Cross may provide assistance. The center will conduct intake and initiate case support. We will ask family members to assist us with the verification process (e.g. providing the name/number of an employer, etc.) Any initial financial support will be based on guidance from NHQ - although if the issue is time sensitive we may not always wait for formal NHQ approval. Red Cross assistance that may be provided for these immediate family members, on a case-by-case basis, may include assistance with transportation to funeral services; financial assistance for funerals; and support from Red Cross-trained disaster mental health volunteers, who are licensed, mental healthcare professionals. The telephone number, l-800-564-1234, ex 480, will be staffed from 9 AM to 4 PM daily, with voice mail service after hours. Callers may experience a delay, depending on the volume of calls.
