Red Cross Schedules CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Course

The Berkshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross has scheduled a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer on Saturday, March 22, 2003 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The course will be held at 480 West Street in Pittsfield. The instructor of the course will be Bill Pike.

The purpose of the course is to teach professional rescuers (those with a duty to act and provide care) the skills necessary to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies, including the use of an automated external defibrillator for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Professional rescuers include policemen, fire fighters, ski patrollers and lifeguards.

Participants will learn the role of the professional rescuer in the EMS system; understand the Emergency Action Principles when providing emergency care for a victim; learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies; and learn how to use an automated external defibrillator.

The cost of the course is $65.00 per person and includes a textbook, all course materials and a pocket mask. Preregistration is required, as class size is limited. To register or for more information contact the Red Cross at (413) 442-1506 or 1-800-332-2030.
