Military Family Support Group

by Kate Hubley
Armed Forces Emergency Services Coordinator

Most military families in Berkshire County have never experienced the extended and repeated tours-of-duty which they're now faced with. They are seeing their challenges of daily life intensified while their loved one is deployed for a lengthy deployment in a branch of the Armed Forces. Unexpected burdens are placed on them during these times and certain stresses and problems are intensified by military life; separation and anxiety, decrease in income, financial problems with bills and other expenses, along with losing a spouse to frequent separations. Red Cross services have evolved over the years to reflect changing client needs and our local Berkshire County Red Cross has responded to these needs under the Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES). It is not only our responsibility but our privilege to give support and comfort to our military and their families.

Our unique, local Military Family Support Group has been in existence now for four years for the benefit of military families in Berkshire County. Presently, military parents, spouses, children and veterans meet twice a month at the Chapter House to reassure, comfort and support each other with their individual circumstances. They not only put their hearts and emotions on the table at every meeting, they participate in other morale boosting social activities.

In addition to emergency messaging, confidential counseling, emergency financial assistance, veterans services, information and referral services, we are committed to providing the best and most comprehensive support services to military families in Berkshire County.

If you know of a military family in your neighborhood, give them a smile and tell them about our group. You never know whose heart you may make lighter.

You can contact Kate Hubley for more information at (413) 442-1506 Ext. 15.
