Chairperson's Message
October 2002
This annual meeting completes my first year as Chairman of the Berkshire County Chapter American Red Cross. It has been an honor to serve in this capacity for such a vital and important organization, especially at this critical time. Our local Red Cross Chapter’s primary responsibility is to serve the residents of our County through a wide range of programs and services which are listed in this Annual Report. We also however, touch the lives of people nationally and internationally through our dedicated staff and volunteers. You should be proud to know that one year ago, Berkshire County Chapter staff and volunteers willingly rushed to New York and Washington not knowing what their tasks would be or what danger they would face. They left the safety and comfort of their homes and family to do what they do best – help ease the pain and suffering of people they have never met. These individuals provided food, financial aid, words of comfort and genuine affection to family members of those who perished and also to those who assisted with the search, rescue and recovery effort. The events of September 11 have made us all appreciate life with a renewed focus.
I look back on this past year with fond memories of the many events and activities made possible by our staff, our volunteers and our dedicated Board of Directors. We have a vibrant, successful Chapter under strong, capable leadership of Kathleen A. Phillips, Executive Director. Let us all thank Kathleen, our staff, our Board and our many volunteers for their hard work and loyalty.
John J. Kelly, Chairman
